Happy New Year

Happy New Year

Every year people all over the world celebrate the New Year in a variety of ways.  For me it is an opportunity to reflect on the year past and look forward to the new goals and opportunities ahead.  It is an opportunity to thank those who have blessed me with their friendship and the new relationships that have been created through the work I do as well as remind myself of the fortunate life I live with people who have been there in my life from the past.

I am so grateful for my immediate family, Mom, Dad, Sherri (my sister) and her family as well as my grandmother who will turn 102 this January 8th.  I’m thankful for my Uncles, Aunts and Cousins who I don’t talk with often, but get to see what they’re up to through social media.  I’m thankful for my family because they love me – even during those times I’ve not lived up to being the human being that I should be.

I am grateful for my friends that have been around for a long time.  My best friend Travis and Jennifer Ratliff and their kids have moved just up the street from me which is such a blessing.  We visit on a daily basis and Travis is very much more than a friend, he has become my brother. It doesn’t hurt that Jennifer and Sheila find so much in common together and enjoy one another’s company (and shopping and working out).

My business partner and friend Mario Chavez is my other brother and friend.  He has been instrumental in encouraging me to fulfil my long-time goal of getting back into business again.  For people who have known me, they know that I work best when I’m the boss, and getting back into real estate as a broker has afforded me that opportunity.  Mario and I have talked for years about working together, and 2016 is the year this became my reality.  While starting any business is tough in the beginning, Mario provided me with the means to get things started, and we work well as a team.

There are other friends that I have met over the years that I am happy to have met.  While I admit, my work and family consume the majority of my time, it is so nice to see people again and reconnect.

My life-long personal mission statement has been for 20 or more years has been and continues to be, “I exist to serve God through developing relationships.”  Being in the real estate business now full-time has provided my mission to continue as I have met many folks this past year who have trusted me enough to serve them through assisting them through their real estate transaction.  Thank you for trusting me and for becoming my friend.  I hope that you will reach out to me in 2017 and drop a line telling me how you are doing.

As I look forward to 2017, I know there are a number of goals that I have.  I do not call these resolutions, because resolutions to me have a negative connotation. As I look back and reflect, setting goals has been an effective practice.  Setting goals allows me to work towards big achievements, but I do so keeping my personal mission statement in mind.  I exist to serve God… is the first part of my mission.  My goals always start with serving.  In the competitive world that we live, giving and serving seem counterintuitive, but for me, it is my life’s work. …through developing relationships… my goals definitely revolve around meeting and working with people.  In 2017 I look forward to meeting and serving more people as well as those people I already know.

In all, 2016 was a good year, a tough year, and a year with a lot of work and change.  I look forward to 2017 with the new challenges, growth and experiences that will come from serving God and developing new relationship.

I wish all my family and friends a very Happy New Year too!!
